AC Milan is eager to make sure that Nigel de Jong doesn’t leave this winter or next summer. The club management is believed to be going to offer a new deal to the midfielder soon.
De Jong was wanted by Manchester United towards the end of the last transfer window, but, Milan, as expected, refused to let the Dutchman go.
However, De Jong himself, while talking to a newspaper correspondent, had said that he was feeling proud to be on United’s radar.
United will definitely try for De Jong again in January. They are seeking a holding playmaker quite badly at the moment.
The Red Devils don’t have too many issues with their attack. It’s at the deep positions that they need a bit of stability and that stability can be provided by De Jong.
Daley Blind, De Jong’s compatriot who is currently playing in that holding position in the midfield for United, seems to be very raw at the moment. The way he went about his work against Leicester, it was not that encouraging.
Van Gaal knows that he can’t be dependent on Blind for the entire season. He has to get in a solid defensive midfielder who is experienced too and he can’t find a better option than De Jong.
De Jong has been in Italy for only 3 years. He had to wait for his opportunities there at Milan, but, presently, he is an important cog in their line up and the Rossoneri hierarchy would not want to lose him at any cost.
De Jong, who will be 30-year old in November, has 46 games under his belt for AC Milan in Serie A so far. He has struck only thrice which is understandable as he plays deep.
